SARC Network – Videos for children and young people who may experience a child forensic medical examination (CFME)

The videos aims are to:

  • Explain why a child or young person (CYP) may need an examination.
  • Describe what will happen when a CYP arrives for a CFME, who they will meet and what they can expect.
  • Explain why the relevant staff are there and what information they need.
  • Emphasise that the CYP has control to decide whether they wish to go ahead with the CFME and to stop at any point, as well as ask any questions they may have.
  • Explain any intimate parts of the CFME in language that the CYP will understand.
  • Highlight what happens following the CFME.
